About

VassilisPantelidis is a filmmaker and photographer based in Athens, Greece.
He holds an Integrated Master’s degree in Film Directing from the School of Film, Faculty of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

His photographic practice focuses on the human subject and body interacting with space and objects — identity, time and memory, symbolism and stereotype.
In his meticulously staged self-portrait images, he becomes the protagonist in scenarios where the familiar and everyday are presented in an unusual context.
Introducing the uncanny, the paradox and the absurd, his images function as visual metaphors that blur the boundaries between reality and imagination.

Presented both nationally and internationally, his work has been featured in institutions and festivals including Unseen, Thessaloniki Photobiennale, Athens Photo Festival and MOMus – Experimental Center for the Arts.
He was selected as a Futures Photography Artist (2018) and Fresh Eyes Talent (2021), and received the 1st Prize at the 8th World Biennial of Student Photography (2021).
His photographs are part of the permanent collection of the MOMus – Thessaloniki Museum of Photography.

Through cinema, he examines memory, grief, and loss — how absence leaves its trace, and how the past quietly inhabits the present. He is attentive to what lingers beneath experience: the unsaid, the suspended, and the unseen.
His debut short film Leaving Was What She Did Best, which he wrote, directed and produced,  premiered at the 48th Drama International Short Film Festival (2025), where it won the Best Director Award in the National Student Competition,
and later received the Best Short Student Film Award from the Hellenic Film Academy at the 17th Iris Awards (2026).
